Earthquakes: Delhi HC queries govt, NDMC on what has been done to make houses safe
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today directed the Delhi government and NDMC to submit status reports on steps taken to make sure that buildings in the city are complying with the guidelines for the seismic stability of their structures.
The divisional bench of the Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan, hearing through video conferencing, also directed the respondents to submit an action taken report on buildings violating the guidelines framed regarding earthquakes.
An application has been filed by Arpit Bhargava in connection with the earthquakes noticed in Delhi between April 12 and June 4. The petitioner submitted: “The respondents are not serious in their endeavours to comply with the directions of this court to take time-bound action in order to save the lives of people of Delhi.”

The petitioner further submitted that urgent directions are needed to be issued to make the people aware of the measures to be followed during an earthquake.
