SC says no to offline CLAT exams

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today dismissed a plea seeking directions for conducting the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) through offline mode.

A three judge bench of Justices L. Nageswara Rao, Hemant Gupta and Ravindra Bhat refused to hear the plea by Adv Mitul Jain.

The petitioner contended that the CLAT committee had initially decided to hold the exam offline but now it is going ahead with the online test. The lawyer argued that the move will prevent students who do not have access to computers to sit for the admission test.

The CLAT committee had decided to conduct the exam online due to COVID19.

The exams had been postponed several times and the Consortium of National Law University has decided to hold it on August 22.

The consortium had decided to conduct the exam on an online, computer-based, centre-based mode. Previously it was conducted in pen-and-paper mode.
