Supreme Court Bar Association elections tomorrow (watch video on how to vote)

Elections to the Supreme Court Bar Association will be held on Saturday (February 27) to elect the association’s office-bearers for 2020-2021. The elections like much else in the pale of the coronavirus outbreak, will be held online from 7 am to 7 pm and votes will be cast on the NSDL platform.

The contest for the post of President will see six candidates in the fray: Senior Advocates Vikas Singh, Priya Hingorani, Kailash Vasdev, Adish Chandra Agarawala, and Advocates Ashok Arora and Ajay Mandyal.

For the post of Vice President, Senior Advocates Pradeep Kumar Rai, S.B. Upadhyay, R. Balasubramanian, Advocates D.D. Sharma and Shyam Sunder Gupta have filed their nominations.

For the post of Honorary Secretary, 5 candidates are in the fray: Surendra Singh Nehra (S.S. Nehra), Ardhendumauli Kumar Prasad, Harpreet Singh Sandhu, Amit Anand Tiwari  and Vikrant Yadav.

For the post of Joint Secretary, 8 candidates are in the running: Afshan Pracha, Rahul Kaushik, Aftab Ali Khan, Vibhu Shanker Mishra, Mukesh Kumar Ravi, Reena Rao, Aldanish Rein and Dharvendra Pratap Singh Yadav.

For the post of Treasurer, Meenesh Kumar Dubey, Yugandhara Pawar Jha, Rajesh Kumar Maurya and Pradeep Kumar Yadav will be the contestants.

For Joint Treasurer, Deepak Prakash, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Purnima Johari, Reepak Kansal, Upendra Mishra and Amit Sharma.

Apart from these candidates, 12 people are contesting for Senior Executive member and 47 people are in the fray for Executive Member.

On February 10, Supreme Court Assistant Registrar Srikanth G. Pai informed the SCBA Acting Secretary that an AIIMS Health Advisory Team had recommended holding elections on an online platform.

In her letter dated January 30, 2021, AIIMS Professor Dr Arti Kapil stated, “In view of the probability of spread of COVID in Large congregations and feasibility of the elections to be conducted on secure online platform, it is desirable that the elections are done on online platform.”
