The Supreme Court has ordered the Union Home Ministry to prepare within six weeks, a chart regarding remedial, preventive and corrective measures taken to address the issue of hate speeches. A Bench comprising Justice A.M. Khanwilkar, Justice A.S. Oka and Justice J.B. Pardiwala on Thursday further directed the Ministry to mention in the chart, the compliance with general directions issued by the top court in the verdicts of Shakti Vahini and Tehseen Poonawalla. The Apex Court said that it will reactivate those cases, if they have not been complied with, across the country. In Poonawalla case, the Supreme Court had condemned the incidents of mob lynching/violence in the country and asked the Parliament to consider framing a special legislation to tackle the same. The Court had also outlined measures to be put in place, including dedicated nodal officers and a special task force, immediate registration of complaints and free legal aid to victims of mob violence. ...
