CJI Ramana takes recommendation from Justice JK Maheshwari on elevation of Judges

Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana on Monday sought advice from fellow Supreme Court Judge, Justice J.K. Maheshwari, regarding the elevation of two Judges from one High Court to another.

Usually the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by the Chief Justice of India and mostly comprising four other senior-most Judges of the Apex Court, which recommend the elevation of judges.


The current collegium includes CJI N.V. Ramana, Justice U.U. Lalit, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Nageswara Rao (who is bound to retire on June 7).

Thanking Justice Ramana for the ‘rare honour,’ Justice Maheshwari said, “I thank you for seeking my views on the proposal mentioned in the letter under reference.

“I agree with the proposal to repatriate, for better administration of justice, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah from Andhra Pradesh High Court to Patna High Court.

“I agree with the proposal to transfer, for better administration of justice, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav from Madhya Pradesh High Court to Delhi High Court.”
